More from my collage series working in the studio in France, with fellow artist Reenie…
Working in the studio in France. I will be getting ready to go back for an exhibit in 2014.
Photos I’ve taken mostly in the South of France…
Some artsy photographs I took just walking around the South of France. Here are just a few with interesting compositions… Enjoy!
In the studio- working in La Napoule, France… This is the beginning of a set of collage pieces that will be exhibited in France.
My visit to the Matisse Museum in the South of France. Some stealth shots of the galleries, as I was approached by security not to take pictures. Also wonderful ancient ruins that were next to the Museum grounds.
Well Into my third full day and work is finally coming along. I feel I’m mentally starting to settle into the environment. So much visual stimulation, at first it’s complete chaos. Now I’m starting to focus and do more work. Above are some studies… Just getting loose and exploring ideas.
As I get settled in my work space here at the chateau, I encounter many challenges with the language. It’s encouraged me to learn a word and or phrase everyday. Today I did several studies and worked on setting up the studio for a large multi-medium painting. This piece will be exhibited here in the gallery late summer 2013.
The dinners served to you here are very special and so are the hosts. La Napoule, I learned, is not really a part of Provence… It’s just south and is in Mandelieu.
It feels somewhat surreal to be on the Mediterranean with so much history and work to be influenced by. I’m challenging by having so many ideas— because of the overwhelming inspiration on so many levels visual and culturally.
La Napoule is charming and deeply identified by it’s roots. There is not the presence of an enormous modern culture as in many other cities near by. It’s still quiet and quaintly considerate.
Views from the Henry Clews studio. Located in the main chateau, Henry’s work is all around and executed in a variety of marble, stone, wood and plaster.
Having the privilege to work around this environment is why we dream as artists!
My residency is located on the French Riviera just to the southwest of Cannes and northeast of Théoule-sur-Mer. I will stay and work at Château de La Napoule, a medieval castle from October 9th thru November 6th 2012. The Château houses the Clews Collection and hosts international programs in the arts. The weather this time of year is perfect!
