Typified by arresting powers of visual imagery and spatial sophistication, Michael Gadlin’s artistry is an increasingly recognized phenomenon in the art world. Rimmed in spontaneity, his 20-year repertoire expresses a singular uninterrupted brush stroke of Mediterranean, European and Western influences. Pushing the boundaries of contemporary art form, Michael’s work epitomizes avant-garde. Those who experience Michael’s work often discover an ethereal essence captured that defies explanation. From his early years of surrealistic impressionism until now, Michael’s work reflects an improvisational inventiveness that has garnered a loyal following among the art elite. His artistic conviction that “Direct expressionism is the most meaningful reflection of life” has prompted the evolution of an extremely cogent and intriguing portfolio of 21st century art.

As a  disciplined and dedicated artist, Michael has managed many ventures in his young art career. His most recent and perhaps one of the most important is co-owning ArtHaus Gallery and flex-space in Denver's up-and-coming RiNo art district.  Opening it's doors in late 2012, it is a 5,100 sqft gallery that also houses work studio's between the two owners. Exhibiting in select galleries, museums and institutions worldwide, Michael has been commissioned by governments, Fortune 100 corporations and private collectors, and has been exuberantly heralded in the press. Born in Denver, Colorado, Michael has been exhibiting work throughout the United States and most recently in France. As a young artist Michael studied drawing and painting at the Art Students League of Denver. He would later attended Pratt Institute in New York right after graduating high school. Early on he focused his discipline on classical drawing and painting fundamentals, later emphasizing his studies in abstract concepts in conceptual art. At the same time, while still in New York, Michael further developed his passion for design and contemporary art by taking courses to deepen his knowledge and become more well-rounded in his own artistic philosophy.

In 1999 Michael was the youngest artist ever to win Best Of Show at Denver’s nationally renowned Cherry Creek Arts Festival. The Vance Kirkland Museum acquired a work of his as part of their permanent collection. Michael’s well-received public art installation, commissioned by The City of Denver, hangs permanently in Denver’s District 2 Police Station. The Fort Collins Museum of Contemporary Art selected Michael to be included in the museum’s Rocky Mountain Biennial. Michael has recently exhibited in Denver, Aspen, Telluride and France.

I am dedicated to exploring visual elements that excite the viewer’s senses. In my work, I focus on the process and interaction of layers that become visually meaningful and rich with examination. My philosophy is simple, to be sentient through my interpretations and make work that will challenge all assumptions. Through that fundamental confrontation, I find tension to be the most meaningful facet of my artistic and aesthetic investigations. A context in which I am challenged to make the union of these ingredients seem intuitive and natural visually. My work is driven to guide the viewer into understanding the relationship between the fundamentals of an artistic processes and the emotional expressions that create a dialogue and language that will be universally meaningful.

For me, beauty lies between those elements that offer stimulating contradiction and relevance. The visual depth is already present in our environment. It is the conscious struggle between man-made and the perfection that is nature. This is the backdrop for my work that I’m most stimulated by.

"Besides working daily on my personal art for exhibitions, I am also dedicated to working with under-served and special needs artists both in my personal studio and at various locations.

One example is my friend Zachary Inkeles an autistic artist who I've been mentoring in studio for over 7 years. We've worked together in my studio weekly. This gives me another outlet and insight into the creative process of others and, of course, has an effect on my own work. Most recently I've participated in a Facilitate Painting workshop with some very talented disabled artists, through the Art Students League of Denver who partnered with VSA Colorado Access Gallery here in Denver. These are very special individuals with a ton of creativity and understanding."
